Membership

Any member of New College is welcome to join New College Boat Club. Our aim is to provide all New Collegians with the opportunity to row/cox and race.

See below for details on joining and please note that all captains are contactable through the Committee page.

Experienced rowers

If you have rowing or sculling experience of any sort, please contact the Men’s or Women’s Captain. Please see the Racing page for details on senior rowing and regattas NCBC takes part in.

The Men’s and Women’s 1st VIIIs train on a quiet 2km stretch of river 20 minutes cycle ride from New College, and enjoy professional coaching and the use of our best equipment.

Novices

If you are new to the wonderful sport of rowing, please contact the Men’s or Women’s Lower Boats Captain. Most members of the boat club started as novices at NCBC, with many eventually making the 1st VIII and even going on to represent Oxford University.

Michaelmas Term in particular focuses on the dedicated coaching of novices and entry of crews to the novice-only Christ Church Regatta. However, novices are still welcome to join the club in any term. For Summer Eights in Trinity Term, college athletes from sports whose seasons have finished often form crews with a focus on enjoyment and the social side of rowing.

Coxswains

NCBC is always looking for new as well as experienced coxswains (coxes). Coxing is a crucial aspect of rowing, combining steering, coaching, safety and motivation of the crew. Coxes who already have experience are invaluable to the club, and we also have a thorough training programme in place for novice coxes. Please contact the Captain of Coxes for more information.

Members’ Area

There will soon be a members’ area with special features such as erg room booking, sculling timetabling etc.
